An interview with Michael Moulton, Owner Truck Décor in Sandy, UT.


Rebsi: So, let's get started. How did you first hear about Auto PlusXP?

Michael: It's a funny story. I looked at Auto Plus originally back in 2001 but did not know enough about River's Edge, Inc. and went for the big and flashy presentation and what I thought was a great solution for my business. As it turns out, not only did the Autos2000 software not perform, it did not have any integrated accounting and the inventory was little to be desired. I waited to try and get a return on my investment over the next 2 years or so keeping an eye on the market for good automotive software and sure enough Auto Plus was there when I was ready.


Rebsi: What were your first impressions of the product when you signed up? What keeps you using Auto PlusXP?

Michael: I was a little upset at myself for not taking a closer look at the Auto Plus system back when I made my Autos2000 purchase. I had no idea there were so many tools available to me in one package. I keep using Auto PlusXP to run my business for a couple of reasons. The first reason is because it simply works and has all of the features my business requires. Second, the Auto PlusXP system is every changing and evolving to meet the demands of an ever changing automotive market place.


Rebsi: What other benefits did you experience when using Auto PlusXP?

Michael: One of the really cool features that I did not even know the Auto PlusXP system had was the integration of the AAIA (Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association) data for make, model, year, part category and sub-category per the legacy and ACES format. This has been a huge feature for us as it allows for the cross referencing of applications to our parts. We can then utilize features in the Auto PlusXP system for searching parts by catalog application. There are numerous other features we now take for granted on a daily basis.


Rebsi: Were you using another software product before or were you managing your automotive business without a software system? Was the transition difficult?

Michael: We were using a product by the name of Autos2000. It was mainly a service order writing package with some inventory. The move to Auto PlusXP was an easy one as we were so frustrated with our old system. Although learning the system was quite easy, we had developed habits with our old system that we had to get out of.


Rebsi: What challenges did you face that Auto PlusXP was able to help resolved?

Michael: One of the challenges was the amount of time saved using Auto PlusXP in determining the correct part for the customer's application. Other challenges resolved were spending money before on inventory we were not moving out of the shop. We had no way of knowing with our old system what products were moving in a regular basis which would have assisted in making intelligent decisions on purchase orders. Now we have that with Auto PlusXP.


Rebsi: How are you using Auto PlusXP? What are you using it for? What features do you use most (inventory SEO, sales order entry, purchase orders)? Have you used Auto PlusXP in ways you hadn't anticipated?

Michael: At Truck Décor, we use Auto PlusXP to sell automotive parts retail in the shop as well as retail nation wide. We also install truck accessories and spray on bed liners. The integrated service module has made the transition from retail over the counter sale to open account service easy. This can change from customer to customer and now we have a system that can do both true sales order entry as well as true service tickets. I never thought we would be able to catalog our own inventory. I always thought this type of feature in an automotive software program was reserved for the large companies such as Activant.


Rebsi: Has your investment in Auto PlusXP provided a positive ROI?

Michael: Absolutely, we chose to subscribe to Auto PlusXP and made a return on investment within the first month and continue on an ongoing basis.


Rebsi: Has your company seen increased growth since you started using Auto PlusXP?

Michael: We have. We are now the official training center for Reflex spray on bed liners and have had to move to a larger location to house more inventory, larger retail area, office space and service bays. We now have more employees as well.


Rebsi: What was the learning curve for Auto PlusXP? Was it easy to use?

Michael: Auto PlusXP is so intuitive and easy to use. Everything just makes sense. Everything is so logically laid out and presented. Very easy to use.


Rebsi: How has Auto PlusXP affected the amount of time it takes you to find what your customer is looking for? Are you seeing fewer returns now because the customer is getting the correct part for their application?

Michael: Oh no doubt. Before, we would have to look everything in big binders on the counter and it took forever. Now the same process is down to a fraction of the time. If the customer does not get the correct part, he or she gave us the wrong information. We have very few returns since using Auto PlusXP.


Rebsi: What are some of the things that people are saying about Auto PlusXP?

Michael: I do not know about other users, but I tell as many people as I can about the system as I know it will benefit anyone in the automotive aftermarket.


Rebsi: What is the one feature of Auto PlusXP that you can't live without?

Michael: Before it was the integrated service, and inventory control, now I would say the inventory catalog shopping cart integration with SEO (search engine optimization).


Rebsi: Thanks for participating. Is there anything else you'd like to add?

Michael: It has been challenging over the years to find that one software package. No one package has ever had 100% of all the features I have dreamed of and I do not know that Auto PlusXP does. What I do know is that Auto PlusXP has the most features I have ever looked for and more that I never knew where possible. The other thing that is so incredible about the Auto PlusXP system is how the keep it fresh with new features and modules all of the time and we get them for free as a subscriber.
